Each wedding we plan we realize what a small world it really is and Kilby and Joel’s story is no different. As Kilby explains, “It’s a small Jewish world after all.” Their Love Story, as described by Kilby, reads no different…
“As a second year Pediatrics resident in Chicago, I realized that the life of a general pediatrician wasn’t for me. After spending a month working in a pediatric rehabilitation unit, I sent out applications and accepted a position for three more years of training in Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. After a three day road trip with Buttercup (Kilby’s dog) across I-90 (Butter loved getting her own bed each night at the hotel), I settled into my new townhouse in Seattle.
My aunt in Memphis happened to know Joel as she lived next door to Joel’s sister and had met him at one of the holidays he spent in Memphis with his family. She provided him with my number so that we could connect and Joel could help me settle into the city he had been calling home for 5 years. Shortly after moving in, and as a welcome break from studying for my Pediatrics boards, I got a call from Joel. We chatted for a while and made plans to have dinner in a week. From that first dinner we gradually started spending more and more time together to the point where it seemed like we should try dating or make an effort to spend less time together.
From our first date learning to make pasta, to fun hikes around Seattle, inducting Joel into dog ownership, and moving in together it’s been a great adventure leading to this next step.”
Lucas Mobley Photography was on hand as Kilby and Joel married at celebrated at Woodland Park Zoo this past Labor Day Weekend. We were honored to be a part of their wedding weekend which included a Welcome Dinner at Daybreak Indian Cultural Center catered by Bitterroot Catering the night before and ended with a Post Wedding Brunch at the W Seattle!
